This isn't a sports blog.
Now that that has been established. The last time the Kansas City Chiefs won the Superbowl was Superbowl IV in 1970 (I wasn't even born yet). The next time the Kansas City Chiefs will win the Superbowl is Superbowl XLIII in 2009 (that's right the next one, you heard it hear first). Why? Because the Chiefs had a kick ass draft. They scored the top defensive lineman and one of the top offensive lineman along with some more much needed help at other positions. I won't go into specifics but yeah I have a lot of differences with coach Herm Edwards. Herm if you're reading this then stop and go study the playbook. I suffered with Herm when he was coaching the Jets and then Herm leaves the Jets and where does he go. That's right Kansas f*ckin City. I can't escape Herm and his insistence on calling the wrong plays at the wrong time. However, credit has to be given on this year's draft choices. I don't know how much involvement Herm had on the picks, since the Chiefs have a pretty slick GM in Carl Peterson, but if he did then bravo. Of course they say it'll take 2 to 3 years to tell whether the fruit of this year's draft has ripened or has gone sour. But I say there's no need to wait. They drafted game ready players and the results should show this year. Then again I write this knowing that I was cursing at the TV everytime the Chiefs pick came up and they didn't take a QB. Why didn't they take a QB? They need a QB. I'll revisit this question in the preseason.
As for the Jets. It was a case of "if only" for the Jets. With all the hoping and wishing that the top running back in the draft might possibly fall to the Jets pick the what could have been became the oh sh*t now what do we do when it didn't happen. I was so hoping that the ideal scenario would play out and the Jets would score Run DMC but that hope was quickly extinguished in the first ten minutes of the draft. Oh well, look it up on youtube 'Jets draft blunders' to see first hand Jet fan reactions over the years to their draft picks. It's really amusing and quite true with a "what the f*ck were they thinking" tone to it. I remember some of those picks and reacted much the same way. Not to say the Jets didn't get a great player it was just anti-climactic to the ideal scenario.
As for the draft itself it's always interesting to watch. I read some papers and magazines in the weeks leading up to the draft and I take some educated guesses on who may go where and who is worth taking. And this year I got a few picks right and most picks wrong but it's fun to keep track of. Next football stop preseason and then you know it......fantasy football.
